REN Glycolatic Radiance Renewal Mask

Perhaps my favourite product I have tried this year, this mask is an chemical exfoliant that uses fruit and lactic acids to break down dead skin cells and encourage a brighter complexion. This mask is gentle enough to be suitable for all but the most sensitive skin, but it still gives a through exfoliation leaving my skin looking more even and feeling smoother. And all without the use of manual exfoliants, which can often aggravate the skin and in my case cause redness and sensitivity.

Using the Clarisonic has improved my congested skin, the texture and scarring need a bit more help. I use this mask once a week, and it does take some getting used to, it has a very strong fruity pineapple scent, and feels a bit like runny jam! It does tingle but you won’t notice results immediately, but I think my skin looks better the morning after.

I think this mask will be a part of my routine for a long time, and hope it continues to fade the scarring I have from acne. If you are interested in chemical exfoliants I think this mask is a great place to start.

Lush Catastrophe Cosmetic

I haven’t been in Lush since my massive haul in the Christmas sale, because I didn’t really need anything, my Lush drawer was full! When I finally ran out of Bath Ballistics and Bubble Bars I popped in to get a Comforter Bubble Bar (one of my faves as you can get at least 3 baths out of them) and after hearing Estee from essiebutton rave about the Catastrophe Cosmetic Mask, I had to get one as well!

Lush’s Fresh Face Masks cost £5.75 and need to be kept in the fridge. These keep for about a month, so I am always quite generous when I use them so I don’t waste any, and I get about 5 masks from one tub.

It feels very gentle on the skin, and after leaving it on for about 10 – 15 minutes I rinse it off and my skin feels soothed and a lot softer. It helps calm the redness I get on my cheeks, and I feel it does help calm down breakouts and spots. It has quite a light scent, it smells sort of like Parma Violet sweets!

I think I will be trying either the Oatifix or Brazened Honey Mask next, if you do try one of these make sure you hang on to the pots as Lush will give you a free mask for every five empty clean tubs you bring them!

Liz Earle Brightening Treatment Mask

I was sent this mask a by the lovely Laura at Liz Earle, and it’s slotted really well into my skincare routine. Liz Earle’s Brightening Mask claims to be a ‘reviving, fast acting mask for instant radiance’ and it is targeted at dull skin (which lets face it this weather most of us have dull skin) I think it would be great for people with skin that suffers with a build up of dead skin cells.
The texture of the mask isn’t similar to anything I can think of, it has a definate clay texture but it has a slightly thinner, more spreadable consistency. I find 1 pump covers my face perfectly and I leave it on for 2 minutes (although you can leave it on for just 30 seconds) I do notice a bit of tingling, which it states on the packaging should be expected, but it isn’t unpleasant, although not suited for very sensitive skin.

I remove the mask with the muslin cloth (dampened in hand-hot water) that comes in the Starter Kit, and my skin instantly feels fresher, clean and looks more radiant.
As with all Liz Earle products I’ve tried I’m very impressed with the quality of the ingredients, and unlike a lot of brands the ingredients that are stated on the front of the tube, aren’t buried right at the bottom of the ingredients list, and this mask boasts aloe vera leaf juice, witch hazel and sweet almond oil.
This is a really great mask if you’re in need of a quick fix, and it’s perfect for either before a night out or the morning after!
